Visit three of Rwanda’s National parks i.e. Nyungwe for Chimpanzee tracking, Akagera for game viewing and Volcanoes National Park for gorilla and golden monkey trekking. Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by our driver guide. He will brief you about your 12 days safari and then drive you to your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay. Meal Plan: Dinner
After breakfast, start off your journey to discover Akagera National Park. Our driver guide will take you on this approximately 2.5 hour journey. The drive is arguably scenic and one wouldn’t resist the temptation to make some stopovers for photography. Enjoy an en route mini game drive as you approach your lodge for check-in and lunch. After lunch, you can search the park for your safari favorites on another game drive. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay.
Embark on an early morning game drive to catch up with late hunters and early risers. Search for the big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, rhinos, lions and several Antelope species. Also expect to encounter some bird species. The park’s varied habitats make it home to over 500 bird species. You will later return to lodge for lunch. After lunch, explore Lake Ihema on a boat trip. Ride passed yawning hippos and crocodiles. Relax as you watch water birds and buffaloes, elephants and antelopes wallowing by the water banks. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay. After breakfast, start off your journey back to Kigali. Have lunch, and later in the afternoon, visit the Kigali genocide memorial ground. Over 25000 bodies of victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide were buried in a mass ground on site. This place acts as a museum and an education center. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, start off your journey to discover Nyungwe forest national park. Along the way, make stopovers at Royal Palace Museum and the Ethnographic Museum in Southern Province to learn about Rwanda’s history and cultures. You will have lunch en route at one of the local restaurants. Upon arrival at Nyungwe, you will check-in at your booked accommodation and spend the afternoon at leisure. Have dinner and overnight stay. Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
After breakfast, you will be dropped at Nyungwe headquarters for briefing before venturing into chimpanzee tracking. Although chimpanzees hog the limelight, Nyungwe forest has more 12 primate species to look out for. Smell the freshness as you listen to the birds singing in the trees. The forest is also home to a colorful variety of birds and butterfly species. Upon finding the chimpanzees, you will be allowed one hour in their company. Observe them as you take pictures, audio and visual recordings. After tracking the chimps, return to the lodge for lunch and then go for the canopy walk. This exhilarating walk on a 70 meters suspended metallic bridge affords you a scenic overview of Nyungwe forest and its environs. Also, get to see birds and primates up close while on this approximately 2 hour venture. Later in the afternoon return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. After breakfast, transfer to Lake Kivu for an afternoon sun set Kayaking or boat trip. For 2 hours you will roughly explore the beautiful L. Ihema. Later return to your hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay. Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & Dinner.
After breakfast, you will drive to Musanze. Musanze is a tourism area near Volcanoes National Park, where most of the lodges are located since there are no lodges inside the park. Spend the evening at rest of the day at leisure.
Today after your early morning breakfast, at 7.30 am, you will be transported to the park’s headquarters for the pre-trek briefing. Explore Volcanoes National Park in search of the rare mountain gorillas. Trekking can last from 1-6hrs depending on the movement of the gorillas. Upon meeting the gorillas, you will have one hour to gaze into the eyes of these gentle giants. Take pictures, audio, and visual recordings as you watch them go about their daily activities like feeding, grooming, playing etc. Return to the park headquarters, and drive back to your accommodation. Later in the afternoon, you will go for a local community visit particularly the Iby’ Iwacu Cultural Centre. At the center you will get to learn about Rwanda’s traditional history of past kingship, leadership, marriage, beer making, and local herbs to mention but a few. Dinner and overnight stay at your booked accommodation. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Escape to the summit of Mount Bisoke. Hiking Mount Bisoke, one of the Virungas, is a thrilling and very rewarding experience. Savor great view of Virunga mountain ranges. The hike affords you stunning views of the crater lake on top of the volcano. You will later descend back to your accommodation.
After breakfast, report to park headquarters for briefing before your golden monkey trekking adventure. The activity is not as strenuous as gorilla trekking since the monkeys never go to high altitudes. Upon finding the golden monkeys, you will be allowed one hour with them. You will later return to the lodge for lunch and later transfer to Kigali. If time permits, do a Kigali city tour to visit the Kigali genocide memorial ground and Kimironko local market for shopping. Have dinner and overnight stay at your booked accommodation in Kigali.
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Kigali airport for your onward flight back home. End of service.
